Martha Brae River: "No problem" - Make sure to give this a try - it's such a superb and relaxing way to spend a morning. Don't forget to stop at one of the many small vendors selling beer and rum along the way! Well worth it! --- United Kingdom

Martha Brae River: "Martha Brae raft trip" - Rafting on the Martha Brae was a great way to unwind and enjoy a little nature. Our guide told us that they make their own bamboo rafts & they have to construct a new one about every 6 months. Your raft guide will be happy to point out the different types of wildlife and vegetation, while explaining it's uses along the way. The strangest thing we saw was a bunch of buzzards sitting in a tree. I had to take a picture. It's an interesting ride & worth time. ---Sacramento, CA

Martha Brae River: "Up in the mountains" - Bamboo rafting down the Martha Brae is absolutely fabulous!!! It is one of the most relaxing things to do in Jamaica. I recommend this to anyone who is going to Jamaica for the first time. Find a great cab driver (I suggest a man by the name of Archie) and head off into the mountains for a day of calm, exotic beauty. If you get the right tour guide, you will learn fun facts about Jamaica and its plants, fruits, wildlife and maybe even pick up some fresh coconut. (Yum) I definitely recommend this for those crazy love birds!! ---Unknown

Martha Brae River: "Pleasant & Peaceful" - We went rafting on the Martha Brae whilst on holiday 4-11 November 2003. We did this as part of a full day tour that included a very early morning pick-up, breakfast out (very nice), rafting then the falls and lunch out in a lovely restaurant in Ocho Rios and as a whole day out it was wonderful, really good value for money. The rafting itself is very peaceful and we purchased a nice photograph. The guides who are rafting are not paid much money and supplement their income by carving pots etc so if you can please purchase one or two, it will help them so much. If I went back to Jamaica again I would not probably make a point of going rafting on the Martha Brae again however if it was part of another trip then I probably would. As a whole days excursion it was fantastic if not a little tiring by the time we arrived back in Negril! ---samgidley@hotmail.com, Salford, Manchester, England

Only a short distance from the mouth of the Black River is the YS Waterfalls. To get to the YS Waterfalls you will board a tractor-towed jitney that will take you through the adjacent 2,000-acre cattle ranch and papaya plantation to the privately owned falls. Yes, the YS Falls is privately owned as is the fully operative Jamaican farm by the same family for over 110 years.

YS Falls is privately owned as is the fully operative Jamaican farm.On your way through the farm to the falls you will see some of the Jamaican Red Poll cattle on the island along with some thoroughbred racehorses both of which have won numerous awards over the years.

Your tractor-towed jitney taking you through some of the most beaufuil fields of giant Guango Trees, Cotton Trees, flowering Quickstick, Cedar and Papaya. Not the mention the backdrop of a shady and cool corner down in the valley at the beginning of the gentle pools of cool refreshing water where you will first witness the of the cascading of the river which makes up the YS Falls.

YS Falls cascading water can be seen descending over 120 feet into seven separated pools. YS water falls is more beautiful and certainly less crowded than the well-known Dunn's River Falls that is located just outside Ocho Rios. And many people have said that upon entering the YS Falls they have experienced a feeling of peace and beauty that they never experience ever before, due in part by the breeze given off by the water of the falls.

These curtains of cascading water can be seen descending over 120 feet into seven separated pools without doubt are perfect for swimming! You will notice a well-manicured picnic area at the base and a staircase that climbs one of the limestone cliffs of the falls.

The beauty of what you will see here is that a natural border exists of tall trees setting this area apart from the rest of the world.

The upper pools will entice one to become Tarzan. With some help of the YS employees, you will then grasped and wound your legs around a knotted rope suspended from an overhanging branch. The YS employee will then released the rope, swinging you over the pool dropping you into the water. This plunge will have you coming up giggling like a child.
