Rennie Tours - Negril's Royal Palm Reserve
Negril is seated close to the second largest (6,000 acres) freshwater wetland system in Jamaica. The dominant feature of this area is the Swamp Royal Palm Forest.
A 150 acre grove of endemic and magnificent flora and fauna forest. Jamaica now showcase this "Royal Palm Reserve" for you and your entire family to come and enjoy nature. Climb the lookout tower where bird watchers or photographers feast their eyes for hours. This world of huge tall morass Royal Palms (Roystonea princeps -- endemic to Jamaica) are shadowed by Water Hyacinth (Eichornia crassipes).
There is also Wild and Bitter Tobacco, Bulrushes (yep, the same kind that baby Moses was placed in), Sawgrass (Cladium jamaicense), Giant or Crab Thatch Ferns (Acrostichum aureum) growing some 8 feet tall in areas. If you have a "must do" list for your next trip to Negril, you will want to add a day at the Reserve.
Located just minutes from the Negril roundabout the Royal Palm Reserve is one of those breathtaking attractions that you and or your family will want to see.
The main attraction of the reserve is a Cotton Tree Lake, home to numerous waterfowl, including wild ducks and the Jamaican pond turtle. A Nature Museum informs about the plant and animal life of the reserve.
There is also a riverside bar and another lakeside restaurant and bar specializing in natural juices and Jamaican dishes.
