Martha Brae River: "No problem" - Make sure to give this a try - it's such a superb and relaxing way to spend a morning. Don't forget to stop at one of the many small vendors selling beer and rum along the way! Well worth it! --- United Kingdom

Martha Brae River: "Martha Brae raft trip" - Rafting on the Martha Brae was a great way to unwind and enjoy a little nature. Our guide told us that they make their own bamboo rafts & they have to construct a new one about every 6 months. Your raft guide will be happy to point out the different types of wildlife and vegetation, while explaining it's uses along the way. The strangest thing we saw was a bunch of buzzards sitting in a tree. I had to take a picture. It's an interesting ride & worth time. ---Sacramento, CA

Martha Brae River: "Up in the mountains" - Bamboo rafting down the Martha Brae is absolutely fabulous!!! It is one of the most relaxing things to do in Jamaica. I recommend this to anyone who is going to Jamaica for the first time. Find a great cab driver (I suggest a man by the name of Archie) and head off into the mountains for a day of calm, exotic beauty. If you get the right tour guide, you will learn fun facts about Jamaica and its plants, fruits, wildlife and maybe even pick up some fresh coconut. (Yum) I definitely recommend this for those crazy love birds!! ---Unknown

Martha Brae River: "Pleasant & Peaceful" - We went rafting on the Martha Brae whilst on holiday 4-11 November 2003. We did this as part of a full day tour that included a very early morning pick-up, breakfast out (very nice), rafting then the falls and lunch out in a lovely restaurant in Ocho Rios and as a whole day out it was wonderful, really good value for money. The rafting itself is very peaceful and we purchased a nice photograph. The guides who are rafting are not paid much money and supplement their income by carving pots etc so if you can please purchase one or two, it will help them so much. If I went back to Jamaica again I would not probably make a point of going rafting on the Martha Brae again however if it was part of another trip then I probably would. As a whole days excursion it was fantastic if not a little tiring by the time we arrived back in Negril! ---samgidley@hotmail.com, Salford, Manchester, England

The Green Gotto Cave tour in jamaica

Rennie ToursRennie Tours - Green Gotto Cave Tour

The Green Grotto Caves are Jamaica's most prominent natural attractions with visitors of international repute dating back as far as the 18th century.

The Museum houses memorabilia of the Legendary Reggae Singer and Superstar Bob Marley. The central feature of this natural attraction is the large labyrinthine limestone cave with its numerous rock formations, its stalactites, stalagmites and abundance of overhead ceiling pockets.

The history of the Green Grotto cave can be identified with different groups of people. The first Jamaicans, the Arawak Indians (Tainos) found shelter in the caves initially. Proof of this is evident in the multiple fragments of pottery and adzes that are unearthed from time to time.

Jamaica's world famous son, singer-songwriter Bob MarleyDuring the period of take-over by the English, the caves were used as a hideout for the Spaniards who were being driven out of the country.

The caves can also be identified with that period between the two world wars where they were used by smugglers running arms to Cuba. In the latter years during the Second World War, the Government of Jamaica used the entrance of the cave as a storeroom for rum in barrels. In the 1960's Green Grotto Caves fell into the possession of the Kirkner family.

Today the Green Grotto Caves attraction is being developed to include a nature park and reserve. They are owned by the Urban Development Corporation and operated by the St Ann Development Company.
